These courses teach life skills and anyone can take them, if you wanto be a better leader, parent, partner, be empowered in your own life, these courses are for you!
Melissa’s passion project is her non-profit, Girls Matter (www.girlsmatter.ca), breaking the poverty cycle 1 girl, 1 family, 1 village at a time. The mission is to keep girls in school and stop teenage marriages, because school isn’t free in over 50 countries around the world and when parents have to make the difficult choices of feeding their kids or paying for school, food wins. And when the girls hit their teen years, they will often be married off so that someone else becomes responsible to feed them. Keeping girls in school instead creates a generational ripple effect, because an educated girl is more than twice as likely to ensure her on children are educated. Educating girls also grows the GDP of countries, when they get into the workforce. This is how together, we can change the world. Guests on this podcast are invited to donate to this important cause. Welcome back to another episode of health hacks.
Melissa Deally:As I round out this series on stress by sharing with you that
Melissa Deally:stress can also cause skin problems such as acne, eczema,
Melissa Deally:psoriasis and leading to flare ups. And many of these
Melissa Deally:conditions are actually impacted by the health of our gut. The
Melissa Deally:health of our gut is houses 70% of our immune system. And as
Melissa Deally:Hippocrates said 1000s of years ago, all disease starts in our
Melissa Deally:gut. And I like to say all health starts in our gut. When
Melissa Deally:our gut isn't happy, it can cause flare ups of a variety of
Melissa Deally:skin conditions, and when we are stressed out, we're actually
Melissa Deally:unknowingly killing off good bacteria in our gut and causing
Melissa Deally:an imbalance in our gut, which can then trigger these skin
Melissa Deally:problems. And so what can you do about it? Well, one thing that
Melissa Deally:I've had to learn myself probably about now, seven, eight
Melissa Deally:years ago, which has created a powerful shift in my ability to
Melissa Deally:be handling the stress in my life is simply learning to say
Melissa Deally:no. You see, when we say no to others, we're saying yes to
Melissa Deally:ourselves, and when we say yes to other people, we are saying
Melissa Deally:no to ourselves. We only each have 24 hours in a day, and we
Melissa Deally:lead busy lives, and are we allocating time to ourselves so
Melissa Deally:that we can get out of our stress state, do something that
Melissa Deally:brings us joy, that we love, that allows us to calm our
Melissa Deally:nervous system? And if we're not allocating time to that each and
Melissa Deally:every day, then other people are quite likely taking our time,
Melissa Deally:and we are in the habit of saying yes, and when I learned
Melissa Deally:to say no, that was really powerful. And in saying no, that
Melissa Deally:created time in my calendar for me, and I block that time in my
Melissa Deally:calendar I don't see clients before 10am because I block my
Melissa Deally:morning time for me to be able to get out of the house, go and
Melissa Deally:do something that I love, so that I've filled my cup, so that
Melissa Deally:I am then able to serve for the rest of the day. And so just
Melissa Deally:start practicing saying no, if someone asks you to do something
Melissa Deally:as a favor and it's going to take your time just practice
Melissa Deally:saying no. It's hard at first. It was hard for me, and it felt
Melissa Deally:strange in my mind. My brain is like, what are you doing? You
Melissa Deally:could do this with your eyes closed and your hands tied
Melissa Deally:behind your back, and I was talking back to my brain going,
Melissa Deally:Yes, I know I could. I'm practicing saying no so that I
Melissa Deally:can use that time for something that I want to do, and no is a
Melissa Deally:complete sentence. When you say no to somebody, you don't have
Melissa Deally:to justify why you're saying no. You can simply say thank you for
Melissa Deally:asking, however, no, I'm not available to do that, or simply
Melissa Deally:No, so thank you for tuning in to this series on stress. It
Melissa Deally:started with episode number 445 and finishes now with episode
Melissa Deally:456 if you've caught a few of them and you haven't caught all
Melissa Deally:of them, go back and tune into all of those episodes. Each
Melissa Deally:episode gives you a tip in how you can help to manage your
Melissa Deally:stress, reduce the stress in your life so that you can be
Melissa Deally:healthier, you can extend your longevity. Because the reality
Melissa Deally:is is that stress is stealing your health and it is shortening
Melissa Deally:your life. So these are some quick episodes so you can shift
Melissa Deally:that for yourself. And it's never too late to start. And if
Melissa Deally:you need support, or you'd like to run some lab tests so we can
Melissa Deally:see how the stress has impacted your mineral levels, your
Melissa Deally:vitamin levels, your hormones, etc. Please reach out Melissa at
