Release Your Toxins to Regain Your Health! | Ep 78
This episode is the start of a new month and new theme, focusing on toxins and the impact they have on our health. I dive into looking at how our health has changed dramatically for the worse over the last 100 years as our toxic load has increased, while our nutrition has declined. We now have near epidemic levels of people suffering from chronic illnesses, and the reality is, it doesn’t have to be that way!
When we know how to help our bodies eradicate the toxins and ensure we are giving our body what it needs in terms of good nutrition, we can absolutely change our health outcomes to avoid chronic illness. We have the ability to do that when we know how. This month’s episodes will teach you how you can do this for yourself and your loved ones. It isn’t hard to do and I absolutely love teaching this as a lifestyle to my clients, and hearing them rave about the health benefits they notice as a result! How long do you want to live for, and do you want to enjoy the quality of life to the end? It is a choice, you are not at the whim of your genes, you can choose to ensure your genes do not turn on disease in your body!

Imagine getting up every day full of energy is if you were in your 20s. Again, what would that be? Like? What would that be worth to you? What is your health worth to you? Think about it. Your health isn't everything. But without it, everything else is nothing. And yet too many of us are taking it for granted until something goes wrong. No one wakes up hoping to be diagnosed with a disease or chronic illness. And yet, we've never been taught how to be proactive in our health through our school system, or public health. As a registered health coach and integrative health practitioner, I believe it is time this information is made available to everyone. Combining new knowledge around your health and the ability to do my functional medicine lab tests in the comfort of your own home will allow you to optimize your health for today and all your tomorrow's don't wait for your wake up call.
Melissa Deally:Welcome back to another episode of The don't wait for your wake up call podcast. I am Melissa Deally, your host and very excited to have you here with me today. As we start a new month and a new theme. And this month we're going to be diving into toxins, different types of toxins, inflammation on the body, et cetera, et cetera. And of course, I'm bringing you some great guests again. But before I dive in, I just want to share an amazing testimonial that I have received recently from a live Elizabeth Purvis of Portland, Oregon. And she says, the 20 day a 21 day detox with Melissa was so good. I dropped a ton of weight. And results vary. So I'm not going to say how much but I have never felt better and more productive during my day than I do. Now. Having completed this detox, the best part is Melissa's wealth of knowledge and her unwavering support. Such a great reset and kickstart for my greater health goals. Thank you so much for sending me that testimonial. Elizabeth, it ties in beautifully. With this topic I'm diving into. And for all of you who've been listening to my podcast for a while now you'll know that I often talk about toxins and your toxic load. And I will continue to do so because I truly believe that it is such an important topic when it comes to optimizing your health, which is what I choose to do for myself. And what I want to offer all of my clients on a daily basis, my mission is to build a healthier global community. And sharing this information is one way that I can do that. So as I said, this month, I'm focusing on toxins and the things that we can do to counter the toxins that are in our life. I'm going to be bringing you a guest speaker next week to share his expertise on EMFs, or electromagnetic fields and the toxic effect they have on our bodies. He is a national level sports coach, and could see the negative impact on his athletes performance, just from their devices like smartwatches, phones, et cetera, et cetera. And if they are impacted solar, you and your kids, so you'll definitely want to check out next week's episode for more detailed information on EMFs. The EMFs do not just target one sector of the population. So that's why I know that if it's impacting the athletes, it's impacting you as well. And I'm also bringing you a pain expert in the form of a sports and orthopedic physical therapist because so often the pain we feel in our body is triggered by inflammation, which is caused by our toxic load. So I thought it would be helpful to learn some options from these experts. So you can take preventative action against the EMFs in your life. And if you struggle with chronic pain, or you know someone who does, you can share this content with them because living in chronic pain is literally that painful, right? Nobody wants that. It reduces your quality of life and reduces your mobility, which then negatively impacts your overall health and wellness. So for today, I want to discuss the impact of toxins on our health as a society over time, education is power. And when you know this information, it allows you to be making better choices, which is the sole purpose of me bringing you this information. But first, how do we even know that toxins are impacting our health? We can't see them. We can't feel them per se. How do we know? Well, the truth is we just have to look around and see the massive increase in the number of cases of chronic illness in the past century to give us a really good clue. And know that since World War Two we've had 144,000 manmade chemicals introduced into our world Hold. This is a massive number in a very short amount of time that our human bodies have not yet been able to adapt to. Instead, this level of toxicity is getting stuck inside our body bogging down our liver and its ability to do its job and eradicate all those toxins. The liver just wants to keep as many toxins out of our bloodstream as possible. And so if it can't get them out of our body entirely because it's overloaded, it will simply store them in our fat closets. Yes, the fat in your body is toxic. And this is why it's really important when doing a detox program that you are using herbs that support the body in actually eliminating the toxins. So they aren't being dumped right back into your bloodstream.
Melissa Deally:There are documentaries, you can watch on the impact of chemical toxins on our health. as well such as Erin Brockovich, dark waters are the devil we know. However, it's easy to watch those and think that won't affect me, it's happening in another town far from where I live. Or because you don't actually work in the chemical plants, it's not going to impact you. But the reality is, it's happening to all of us each and every day. And small amounts of toxins are getting inside our body. And they build up over time causing inflammation and the onset of disease. Now, I know that sounds scary to hear. But here's the thing, when you know this, you can choose to do something about it. And that removes the fear. Because you are taking positive action to reverse the health impacts of toxins on your body. It's more scary to not know this at all, and then go about your daily life, and then later get a diagnosis of chronic illness and being told you have to live with that for the rest of your life. Which by the way is also not true. But it's very often what people get told by their medical doctors, the body is amazing. And we can create an environment for it to heal by removing the toxicities, discovering the deficiencies, eliminating them, and then bringing the body back into balance, at which point it will heal itself. We can do all of that with functional medicine at home lab tests that will show you where the deficiencies and imbalances lie in your body. Wouldn't that be helpful to know? And then you can take proactive action. So let's look at the change in our health. Over the past century since many of these toxic chemicals have been introduced into our world. Obesity has seen a 35 fold increase in just 115 years, from 1.2% of the population being obese in the late 19th century, to 42.4% of the population being obese, as of 2021. And that just isn't just being overweight, that is being Oh, beasts. And then heart disease that has gone from now having eight known worldwide cases of heart attack deaths in the 19th century, eight in the entire world that were document to now one in three people are dying of heart disease in the US alone. And that was as of 2010. So 12 years ago already. Heart disease is the number one killer in the US right now. Diabetes has seen a 25 fold increase in the last 80 years from less than half a percent of people having type two diabetes in 1935 to almost 10% of the population being diagnosed with type two diabetes by 2015. And cancers have seen a 62 fold increase in the last 200 years. From one in 188 deaths in 1811. In the Boston area, to by the turn of the century of 1900. across the whole us it was one in 17 deaths. And by 2010. It was one in three across the US. And by 2030 It's expected to reach one in two people dying of cancer. These are shocking numbers. So why is this happening? What else has changed over the last century to cause these massive increases in these types of chronic illnesses and other types of chronic illnesses? Well, while our soil systems have changed, due to mass farming, our soils are now nutrient depleted so our bodies aren't getting all the vitamins and minerals that they need in order to thrive and have a strong immune system. Our food has changed from being grown and eaten locally from being largely organic to being mass produced, sprayed by pesticides to ensure bigger crops, and then shipped all over the world, and often picked before ripening, so that it will ripen on the way to the store and look perfect in the stores for consumers to buy. The problem with that is, is that if we're picking the fruit before it's fully ripe, it or the, excuse me the produce before it's fully right. This means that there are even less nutrients in that produce because nutrients get into the food as it ripens. So for picking it early, we're skipping that step.
Melissa Deally:And of course, we've had the introduction of fast food, which is convenient, but full of chemicals GMO ingredients to keep cost down, make it taste yummy, or make it more addictive to use, so you want to eat more of it. And then prepackaged foods on store shelves have chemicals added to enhance the shell like shelf life, so there's less waste, more profit for the food companies. These products are often cooked with cheap oils high in Omega sixes, which triggers inflammation in our body. And while we need some omega sixes in our diet, we are getting way too many and becoming inflamed. And we don't want to be in a state of chronic inflammation, as that is the state in which our cells then trigger our genes to turn on disease. This is the science of epigenetics. We now know that it isn't simply our genes that dictate our health outcomes. But the combination of our genes plus the environment we create inside our body that will dictate our health income outcomes. The genes factor is only five to 10% of that equation. But the environment we create inside our body is 90 to 95% of that equation. This is very powerful, as it gives you so much more control than what you might have thought. You cannot control your genes. But you can control the environment you create inside your body by your everyday lifestyle choices, including what you put into your body in terms of food and drink, but also the personal care products you use, the cleaning products you use, and what you do to help clean out your body, knowing that we can't avoid all the toxins in our world today. But we can help our liver and kidneys from getting bogged down. By creating a lifestyle habit of detoxing. We can also help ensure our body is getting all of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that it needs by eating a whole food diet making food from scratch at home, eating all the colors of the rainbows so that we're getting all of the nutrients versus the standard American diet, which is largely the processed food fast food industry diet is only giving us 17 One seven of the 99 zero nutrients that our body needs to thrive. And when we shift into more nutrient dense meals, rather than the quick, easy convenience foods, we are giving our body so much more in order to be able to thrive. And in order to help keep inflammation levels down. So this is something that I offer my clients and every single person who has ever done my program has loved it by the end. Okay, they may not have loved every moment of the program at times, it may have felt hard, but with my high level of support they get through their detox program. And by the end of it, they feel so much better than they did at the start of the program with more energy, more mental clarity, better sleep, less joint pain, etc, etc. Some people say they cannot remember ever feeling this good. Our toxins bog us down and have us feeling like crap and over time create an environment of inflammation in the body, which can then trigger our genes to then turn on disease as we are that we are predisposed to. And here's the reality, it simply doesn't have to be that way. So helping get the toxins out of our body is really important. And it's really important to be aware of the most common sources of toxins so that you can make better choices in your everyday life. I'm not a proponent of throwing everything out and starting over. If you are that's great go for it. But for those of you who have toxic products in your house, be aware of them and start re Searching options so that when you finish the product you have, you can replace it with a non toxic option. Instead, I have a Resources tab on my website at your guided health journey.com. And under that is my recommendations, which is a great starting point for you to research cleaner products if you need help with that, from personal care products to laundry products to other household cleaners, etc, etc makeup, etc. Because all of the ones that you buy in your everyday stores are loaded with toxins.
Melissa Deally:So the top 10 toxins as outlined by my mentor Dr. Steven Cabral in his book, The rain barrel effect are heavy metals, GMOs, in other words, synthetic foods, genetically modified foods, pesticides and DDT, Tappu, water, stress EMFs your electromagnetic fields or electro smog, home sick or sick home syndrome. The air you breathe inside your home can be toxic personal care products, pharmaceutical drugs, and gut bugs. So in Episode A, I am going to go through each of these toxins in more detail with you. So I invite you to tune back in to learn more about each of them. Because in understanding them, you can make better choices. And next week, tune back in because that's when I'm going to have Justin Freston on the show. And we're going to dive into EMFs the electromagnetic fields, and really focusing on how that is impacting our health, and the steps that you can take to protect yourself from their damaging effects. So thank you so much for joining me, please share this episode with others because honestly, our toxic load is the single biggest factor impacting our health outcomes right now. And we can change that when we understand it. And it's really not that hard to do. You just need some guidance to learn how to do it. Understand clean products versus toxic products, start making those shifts in your life, and change how you feel for today. And for all your tomorrow's and teach your loved ones as well. It's really very simple. But this information isn't being taught through our education system through our public health care system, which is why I'm so passionate about bringing it to through this podcast through my blogs, et cetera, et cetera, so that this information gets out because it's powerful information that will make a profound difference in your life in the life of loved ones. So thanks for listening, and tune back in next week
