These courses teach life skills and anyone can take them, if you wanto be a better leader, parent, partner, be empowered in your own life, these courses are for you!
Melissa’s passion project is her non-profit, Girls Matter (www.girlsmatter.ca), breaking the poverty cycle 1 girl, 1 family, 1 village at a time. The mission is to keep girls in school and stop teenage marriages, because school isn’t free in over 50 countries around the world and when parents have to make the difficult choices of feeding their kids or paying for school, food wins. And when the girls hit their teen years, they will often be married off so that someone else becomes responsible to feed them. Keeping girls in school instead creates a generational ripple effect, because an educated girl is more than twice as likely to ensure her on children are educated. Educating girls also grows the GDP of countries, when they get into the workforce. This is how together, we can change the world. Guests on this podcast are invited to donate to this important cause. Welcome back to another episode of health hacks
Melissa Deally:as I continue talking about stress and how it affects your
Melissa Deally:health and your life. And one of the things that stress does is
Melissa Deally:it impacts your mood, and you can feel more irritable. You can
Melissa Deally:be much more short tempered and with prolonged stress, it can
Melissa Deally:actually contribute towards the development of anxiety and
Melissa Deally:depression, affecting mental health, and part of that can be
Melissa Deally:triggered by what stress is doing to the health of your gut,
Melissa Deally:which is causing an imbalance in the health of your gut as it
Melissa Deally:breaks down the good bacteria, and it leaves this imbalance,
Melissa Deally:which then impacts your body's ability to produce serotonin,
Melissa Deally:and which is your feel good hormone. And 90% of serotonin is
Melissa Deally:made in the gut. And if the gut isn't healthy and your body
Melissa Deally:can't produce enough serotonin, then that can be one of the
Melissa Deally:triggers of anxiety, feelings of anxiety and depression. So I
Melissa Deally:realized stress isn't the only cause of anxiety, depression and
Melissa Deally:mental health issues, however, it is one of them, and when we
Melissa Deally:lower our stress, we can actually start to mitigate some
Melissa Deally:of those symptoms. So as I've been doing throughout this
Melissa Deally:series, I talk about what stress is doing or causing in terms of
Melissa Deally:your health, and give you a suggestion as to how you can
Melissa Deally:mitigate the stress in your life. And in relation to this,
Melissa Deally:it's staying connected with loved ones. And that doesn't
Melissa Deally:just mean family. That means friends as well. The family you
Melissa Deally:get to choose very often, those are the ones that you need in
Melissa Deally:the time of really high stress. Sometimes it's our very own
Melissa Deally:family members that can trigger high stress, and so you need the
Melissa Deally:other chosen family to support you, and so spending time with
Melissa Deally:them, sharing what you're going through with them, having them,
Melissa Deally:you know, listen and just be there for you and you being able
Melissa Deally:to simply receive support can go a really long way in helping to
Melissa Deally:mitigate the stress that you are under, and helping, therefore,
Melissa Deally:you to be able to stay in a place of a happier, feel good
Melissa Deally:mood, you know, as when we can share our burdens, when we can
Melissa Deally:unburden ourselves, even if we're not sharing them with
Melissa Deally:others, we're simply going through the process of
Melissa Deally:unburdening them ourselves. We can stand taller, stand prouder,
Melissa Deally:and sometimes that's all it takes is just talking with
Melissa Deally:another human being. That connection is so important. So I
Melissa Deally:hope this is helpful to you, if you're in that place and you're
Melissa Deally:needing more support with your mental health, and absolutely
Melissa Deally:reach out to the myriad of services that are available
Melissa Deally:through government bodies, etc. If you're in a place where you
Melissa Deally:would just like to understand where your cortisol levels are
Melissa Deally:at, how it's impacting your energy, impacting your health,
Melissa Deally:then please reach out. I would be happy to have a conversation
Melissa Deally:with you, talk about the various lab testing that we can do and
Melissa Deally:support you in rebalancing your cortisol levels and bringing you
Melissa Deally:to a place of a happier life with less stress.
