Melissa neither diagnoses nor cures but helps bring your body back into balance by helping discover your “toxic load” and then removing the toxins. Melissa offers functional medicine lab testing that helps you “see inside” to know exactly what is going on, and then provides a personalized wellness protocol using natural herbs and supplements. Melissa’s business is 100% virtual – the lab tests are mailed directly to your home and she specializes in holding your hand and guiding the way to healing so that you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Melissa has launched Amplify Impact Academy, with business partner, Billie Aadmi and together they train other coaches, practitioners and counsellors in the 4 mind-body healing modalities mentioned above, giving them powerful tools to use with clients to get results with greater ease, speed and grace. These courses teach life skills and anyone can take them, if you wanto be a better leader, parent, partner, be empowered in your own life, these courses are for you!
Melissa’s passion project is her non-profit, Girls Matter (www.girlsmatter.ca), breaking the poverty cycle 1 girl, 1 family, 1 village at a time. The mission is to keep girls in school and stop teenage marriages, because school isn’t free in over 50 countries around the world and when parents have to make the difficult choices of feeding their kids or paying for school, food wins. And when the girls hit their teen years, they will often be married off so that someone else becomes responsible to feed them. Keeping girls in school instead creates a generational ripple effect, because an educated girl is more than twice as likely to ensure her on children are educated. Educating girls also grows the GDP of countries, when they get into the workforce. This is how together, we can change the world. Guests on this podcast are invited to donate to this important cause. Welcome back to another episode of health hacks
Melissa Deally:as I continue talking about stress and how it impacts our
Melissa Deally:long term health, even our short term health and our body
Melissa Deally:overall. And today, I want to share with you how stress
Melissa Deally:actually contributes to weight gain, because it can lead to
Melissa Deally:overeating and cravings of unhealthy foods as we're rushing
Melissa Deally:around trying to get everything done, and we need food for
Melissa Deally:energy, and we just grab whatever's fastest, and that can
Melissa Deally:often be sugary treats, chocolate bars, muffins,
Melissa Deally:pastries, cookies, etc, to keep us going in our stressed out
Melissa Deally:day, versus having time to actually sit down and Prepare
Melissa Deally:and enjoy a healthy meal. And this then over time, when we do
Melissa Deally:this day in and day out, results in weight gain, and it will
Melissa Deally:particularly show up around the middle, when the weight gain is
Melissa Deally:due to stress versus other reasons. And so when you see
Melissa Deally:people that have skinny arms and skinny legs and around middle,
Melissa Deally:you can look at them and go, I bet they have a lot of their
Melissa Deally:stress in their lives, and that's what's been a
Melissa Deally:contributing factor to their weight gain. And in another
Melissa Deally:episode, I'm going to talk about the correlation to stress and
Melissa Deally:your digestive system, and then you will further understand this
Melissa Deally:whole concept of stress contributing to weight gain. And
Melissa Deally:so in each episode, I'm sharing steps you can take to count for
Melissa Deally:that. And so one of those is to exercise regularly. Find
Melissa Deally:something that you enjoy doing to move your body, whether it be
Melissa Deally:walking in nature, doing some yoga at a class or on your own
Melissa Deally:at home, is it putting on your favorite playlist for 30 minutes
Melissa Deally:and just dancing it out to your heart's content like you did
Melissa Deally:when you were 13 years old or 14 or 15, because all of these
Melissa Deally:things help to release endorphins, improve your mood,
Melissa Deally:and they get your body moving, they get your heart rate up,
Melissa Deally:they have you burning some calories to counter the
Melissa Deally:additional calories that are being taken in As a result of
Melissa Deally:the stress that's in your life. So just take a moment to stop
Melissa Deally:and think about what do you love to do to move your body, and it
Melissa Deally:can be different from person to person, and make some time in
Melissa Deally:your calendar in order to allow you to do that at the start of
Melissa Deally:your day. Maybe it's in the middle of your day, maybe it's
Melissa Deally:at the end of your day, not too close to bedtime, though,
Melissa Deally:because you don't want to go into too much of a cardio
Melissa Deally:workout at bedtime, because that can raise cortisol levels and
Melissa Deally:negatively impact your sleep. However, you know right after
Melissa Deally:work might be a good time to do that, to release the stresses of
Melissa Deally:the work day and transition into an enjoyable evening with your
Melissa Deally:family. So as I said, think about how you like to move your
Melissa Deally:body. What brings you joy? Try some different things, because
Melissa Deally:maybe you're not even sure it doesn't have to be the standard.
Melissa Deally:I have to go to the gym and work out. It absolutely does not have
Melissa Deally:to be that. Find what works for you and get some exercise in
Melissa Deally:each and every day to help counter the stresses that are
Melissa Deally:happening in your life and counter the weight gain that you
Melissa Deally:might be experiencing as a result of those stresses in your
Melissa Deally:life.
