Welcome back to another episode of health hacks. And this month I am talking about key nutrients and breaking them down for you so you understand how each mineral or vitamin is helping you, and what happens when you are deficient. And of course, we can run lab tests to determine what your levels are. And I see levels that are showing signs of imbalance on a regular basis. And the good news is, is that it's really easy to fix. And when I explain this to clients, I can tie back their symptoms as to why they're having the symptoms in relation to their levels being out of balance, and then they understand that and they can make the necessary adjustments. So today I want to talk to you about two of your electrolytes magnesium and calcium. And these two together show in the body when I look at lab test levels from a hair tissue sample, it shows how your body is able to cope with the stresses that your body is under both external stresses as well as internal stresses such as bacterial or yeast overgrowth in the gut or a virus in your system. And these two also want to be in ratio to each other. If you have too much magnesium, it pushes your calcium levels down. If you have too much calcium, it pushes your magnesium levels down. So the ideal ratio is about seven to one calcium to magnesium. Magnesium is a very calming nutrient on the body. And when we don't have enough of it, we can find ourselves feeling stressed out and unable to get deep restorative sleep. We can have muscle cramps or spasms. We can also experience chocolate cravings magnesium is in chocolate and so that's a sign that your body is asking for more magnesium in a darker chocolate is going to be a better source. You can have constipation, headaches, migraines, high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat and acid reflux when you are deficient in your magnesium levels. On the flip side, if you have too much magnesium in your body, it can result in anxiety, hyper irritability, fatigue, and or depression. Now when it comes to calcium, a high level of calcium is indicative of a high level of stress on your body and calcium leaving the bones and accumulating in the soft tissues of the body. When our calcium levels are too low, that's indicative of the body getting more towards adrenal burnout and the exhaustion stage and it can result in weakened immunity, potential allergies, asthma, unchecked inflammation, or th two imbalance and it can often be associated with copper deficiency, whereas when we our calcium levels are too high, it can be associated with copper toxicity. So this is all great information to have. And if you'd like to know more or have lab tests run please feel free to reach out Melissa at your guide at health journey.com
